Object:HVAC Control System for the CERN Control Center
Location: Geneva – Switzerland
Year: 2003 – 2004
Client: CERN – Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucleaire
Project description

The project was included in the framework of the renovation, in theearly 2000s, of part of the laboratories of the Eupoean Centre forNuclear Research, in order to accommodate the particle accelerators andto institute the new CCC – Cern Control Center.

This building hosts the scientists during the experiments, and thecontrol systems for the LHC particle accelerators located at the borderbetween France and Switzerland.
The activities were set to equip the center with a newer and more technological architecture.

A new air handling system was installed in the building, and TRILLINIEngineering was in charge of both the basic and detailed engineering ofthe whole HVAC system. The air ducts were designed to allow an adequateair intake and change rate, to achieve a proper comfort in the controlrooms.

The piping lines for the air conditioning were renewed and connectedto the new air handling units. A total of 5 machines, 2 main units and 3secondary units, were designed and installed in the building’stechnical rooms.

Finally, the control system for the whole HVAC system was studied andprovided, including the software for the management of the air qualityinside the CERN Control Center.
