In areas where release of toxic gases from the wells or hydrocarbons, jet fires or explosion is possible, workforce survival has to be guaranteed inside buildings classified as Temporary Refuge. According to risk area classification and project requirements, Temporary Refuge should be equipped with systems capable of protecting people from toxic gases, fire, and blasts such as:

  • Battery storage
  • Emergency lighting
  • HVAC
  • Breathing air system
  • Emergency pressurization system

In order to ensure the highest safety standards, those systems have to be designed to comply with a Safety Integrity Level (SIL) standard.

Trillini Engineering has wide experience in Temporary Refuge engineering. In some projects not just the control system but the whole mechanical system including the instrumentation chain, the access manoeuvres and the operating conditions of the refuges were designed to comply with a Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2.
