Project Description

GAS COMPRESSION STATION

GOALS

The gas compression station of Zelzate is one of the five main compression station that serve the natural gas network providing natural gas to the Belgian country. This station provides for the necessary pressure increases which are necessary to make up for the losses that build up along the delivery system.

Sector: oil&gas
Year: 2007 – 2008
Location: Zelzate, Belgio
Client: Fluxys

ACTIVITIES AND PRINCIPAL SOLUTIONS

The main contractor, who was responsible for the construction of the compression station, assigned the development of the fire extinction and prevention system to TRILLINI Engineering. The first part of the activities consisted in the supervision of the engineering activities, already assigned to the suppliers of the particular systems, in order to guarantee the accordance with the client specification and the compliance with the fire prevention regulations, specifically the Belgian and the European one. TRILLINI Engineering was responsible for supervising the engineering of the following systems:

  • Fire & Gas detection;
  • Inert gas Fire extinction system;
  • Deluge Fire extinction system;
  • Fire monitor extinction system;
  • Hydrant extinction system.

The supply water, to be used in the extinction systems, was provided by the internal water network, which also featured a water storage tank. Moreover, TRILLINI Engineering provided special assistance at the construction site, in order to ensure a correct communication between the different cooperating disciplines. TRILLINI Engineering also monitored that the architecture of the existing pipeline was respected throughout the whole project, so that the different systems would not interfere with each other. The on-site activities for the Fire & Gas Detection and Extinguishing System consisted in:

  • Technical management of the operations;
  • Expediting;
  • Commissioning activities;
  • Logistics Coordination;
  • Management of the planning operations;
  • Interfacing between clients and vendors for a correct supply of the equipment to be installed;
  • Coordination of the project management and technological uniformity of the engineering solutions.

Characteristics:

    • Design temperatures: -20 °C to +37 °C;
    • Directives and regulations: CEA – NFPA – EN – NBN;
    • ATEX Directive (Zone 0 – IS Intrinsically Safe);
    • Management of insurance authorization.
